Installation of the wood stove Before proceeding to the installation of your wood stove, contact the authorities having jurisdiction to obtain the necessary licenses.
The choice of the site of the stove is very significant. Preferably, choose the most central part of the house so that the heat is well shared. Never install your wood stove close to a door, windows or staircase so you do not block the way in the event of fire.
Before installing your wood stove, you will have complied with the Canadian code of the combustion of your locality. In many cases, a construction license is required. The installation of the equipment will have to comply with the rules of the Warnock Hersey "Codes of installation for equipment of heating of wood stoves" (CAN/CSA B3565).
If the floor is made out of concrete, you can install your stove directly on top. Install and use in conformity with the instructions of the manufacturer and the local building codes. The wood stove must be installed on an asbestos plate of 3/8 inch (457 mm) thickness or an equivalent, extending 18 inch (457 mm) and in front 8 inch (203 mm) with the back and on the sides.
The type of the chimney will have a diameter of 6 inch (152 mm) minimum and must be approved for residential use (CAN: ULC5629; USA: UL 103HT). The flue should never cross an attic, between a roof, a wall cupboard or any other restricted space but only a floor, a ceiling or partition made of combustible material. |
